Martin Custom Shop 000-28 Machiche

Martin Custom Shop 000-28 Style – Engelmann Spruce & Certified Machiche

This Martin Custom Shop 000 was designed by New Canaan Music as a distinctive take on a traditional Style 28, pairing an Engelmann Spruce top with Certified Machiche back and sides. The Engelmann and Machiche sets were specifically selected by New Canaan Music for this build.

The guitar features a 24.9” short scale, giving it a comfortable, responsive feel, while the Engelmann top is built to Authentic thickness and supported by scalloped, hand-shaped Golden Era Adirondack Spruce bracing. This combination was chosen to give the smaller 000 body plenty of responsiveness, clarity, and dynamic range.

Visually, the guitar is set apart by Martin’s Chris Hillman Burst, which pairs beautifully with the Machiche back and sides. Traditional Style 28 details include fine herringbone top inlay, antique white binding, a faux tortoise pickguard, and a zig-zag back strip.

The neck features a Modified V profile with a High Performance Taper, along with a 1 3/4” nut width and 2 5/32” string spacing. A black ebony fingerboard is appointed with Foden-style select abalone inlays, adding a subtle Custom Shop touch without taking away from the guitar’s vintage-inspired character.
